Barkevious Mingo

Position: Defensive End/ Outside Linebacker

Height: 6’5 Weight: 240 Arms: 33 Hands: 9 5/8 40 time: 4.58

Well it is just fitting that “Bark” evious Mingo goes the the Browns. Woof woof!  Louisiana State University has some produce amazing defensive lineman in their days, Ronnie Estay (1971), Anthony McFarland (1998), Chad Lavalais (2003), Marcus Spears (2004) and Glenn Dorsey (2007). So no pressure on Mingo.

Barkevious Mingo was highly recruited, he was 4 star prospect. He was redshirted his freshman year but came out of the gate swing after that. In his sophomore and junior year, he was named Second team All-SEC in 2011 and 2012.

Strength:

+ Can play sideline to sideline.

+ Can dip his shoulders and get under the lineman.

Needs Improvement:

– If he gets stop on his speed rush then he is no factor in the play.

– Called offsides way too many times. Not looking at the ball, just hearing the snap count or guessing on silent count.

– Plays too high to make any tackles.

– Always in pass rushing mode but will not play the run.

– Can not take on blocks. He gets swallowed up by the offensive line.

Summary:

I am not a fan of Mingo. One: he seems to give up on plays. He has all the athletic skills but he doesn’t take advantage of it. Two: With a great defense around him, he doesn’t produce at all. Had 8 sacks in 2011 and then in 2012 only 4.5 sacks! What is amazing, he was mostly in pass rush mode even if he was 1st and 10 or 3rd and 23. so why doesn’t have more sacks? I feel like the Cleveland Browns made a mistake but hopefully it won’t hurt them.
